At this year’s Success Camp, a conference for Homes for Heroes affiliate members, our keynote speaker was J.R. Martinez, who inspired us with his message of survival and resilience. At the end of his speech, we and the Homes for Heroes Foundation, surprised him with a grant of $10,000 for the No Barriers Warriors Program. No Barriers is close to Martinez’s heart for its work with differently-abled people.
No Barriers Warriors Program
Military veterans often face both physical obstacles, from in service injuries, and emotional hurdles from their battlefield experiences. No Barriers provides the Warriors Program to address both of these challenges. It’s a three-part program that prepares them in advance with an online course to introduce them to their teammates and manage their expectations for the No Barriers experience. Then it takes them on expedition to experience the No Barriers Life in nature’s more incredible wilderness settings. The challenges during the expedition are designed to help them transform themselves and their perceptions while bonding with their team. When they return, the warriors stay connected to their team through an online course and remote gatherings.
If you are an injured veteran, please find out more about the No Barriers Warriors Program; if you know an injured veteran please tell them about this unique opportunity.

J.R. Martinez said, “when I talk about being differently abled, this is an organization that allows those who are differently abled to go out and have experiences, to go to incredible heights. You guys have probably heard of Erik Weihenmayer, who has hiked every peak you can think of, every mountain in the world, and he’s blind.”
“They take individuals that are in wheelchairs and they get them up the mountains and they get them out of their house. It’s such a beautiful space to be in. It’s so inspiring for me. I’ve actually been thinking about [No Barriers] the last couple of months and wondering how I can continue to find ways to support this organization.”
“I want to thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this organization and all the other organizations that you guys support. This truly means so much to me. Thank you guys so much.”
