If we have learned anything from the Homes for Heroes reviews we receive from the heroes who use our local specialists and the services they provide, it’s that gratitude is contagious. The gratitude we express through our Hero Rewards® savings comes back to us in the flurry of thanks we receive from our heroes. We collect these comments and read through them every week. The file is called “The Gold” and we publish excerpts from it every week on our social profiles. There are so many stories buried in Homes for Heroes reviews so we decided to assemble this compilation so you could experience a bit of what your fellow heroes have experienced with us.

Outstanding Service
One of the common themes in our heroes’ comments is the phrase “above and beyond.” The connections made between our affiliate agents and their hero customers is inspiring. The ability to give back to the heroes of our communities super-charge our affiliate real estate specialists, and it shows in the feedback we get.
“Homes for Heroes is a beautiful cause by itself, but Our agent blew it out of the ballpark. She’s the true hero here in what could have been a very stressful time.” – Chandler W. purchased a home in South Carolina
“Everything about the process was easy and wonderful. Both our realtor and loan officer made us feel like we understood what was happening. This was a huge step in our life and we felt 100% supported through it all.” – Sarah M. bought a home in Minnesota
“Our agent was absolutely wonderful to work with! She was willing to meet me anywhere, anytime. She coached me through the entire process–as I am a first time home buyer. She was always encouraging and positive, even when my first condo fell through. She kept my spirits up and helped me find a condo that I loved even more than the first one! Thank you Homes for Heroes!” – Julie S. bought a home in Illinois.
“Without a doubt, every service member should use Homes for Heroes to buy and/or sell a home. The enrollment process is quick and easy. Our real estate agent was outstanding; she sold our home in three days for over the asking price. Most importantly, she helped alleviate a lot of my wife’s stress. All of this took place while I was deployed. And when everything was said and done, we got paid for using their services. This is a program that truly delivers. Use it and spread the word.” – William V. sold a home in Ohio.
Hero Rewards Savings
It’s easy to focus on the reward check we give our heroes when the house closes, but the check is more than just a check. It’s an opportunity for our heroes to do things, right away, to improve their homes. Likewise, a home isn’t just the realization of one dream – it’s about many dreams. The Hero Rewards check helps the new home buyer achieve some of those dreams. Here are some Homes for Heroes reviews that provide a glimpse into how a few heroes chose to use their Hero Rewards savings.
“Homes for Heroes enabled us to be well prepared for the housing market and home buying process by connecting us with an excellent realtor. The heroes’ savings also helped us with having a cushion to put toward home improvements. A great program with excellent realtor affiliates!”–Krystina F. bought a home in Washington.
“Thank you so much for your generosity! It was SO NICE having the extra money back to spend on appliances/house needs as soon as we bought our house. Our real estate agent was simply phenomenal and I would choose her again in a heartbeat! We really appreciate what you do and your desire/willingness to give back. Thank you!”–Tina D. bought a home in Oregon
“The money came in very handy to buy furniture and appliances.” – Richard B. bought a home in California
“We were thrilled to hear that we could benefit from this wonderful program, Homes for Heroes, when we first started to look for a home. Our mortgage officer recommended our real estate agent to us when we told him that my wife was a teacher. Community heroes are often under appreciated and their efforts can easily go unnoticed, so a program like this really makes them feel valued. We were able to make extra renovations in our new home with the money we got back. The check came quickly after closing and we recommend the program to all of our friends and family now!” – Mert C. bought a home in New Jersey.
“We both bought and sold a home, and we were able to feel more relieved about expenses we were paying from both processes. It is a wonderful program and my agent is amazing at her job. I tell everyone I know that is looking to purchase a house about both this program and my agent.” – Ashley S. bought a home in Washington
Appreciation and Gratitude
The gratitude that fuels Homes For Heroes seems like a natural thing. Of course we would want to thank our military professionals, teachers, healthcare workers, first responders and law enforcement officers. That’s why we are surprised when our reward recipients are surprised by their reward. That too is a recurring theme in the Home for Heroes reviews we receive–thankful recognition of their work in our communities. They don’t expect it and that makes the reward all the more valuable.
“What a fantastic program…..I did not tell my wife about the ‘check’ until closing. She cried when I told her we could get the new refrigerator.” – Michael L. bought his home in Missouri.
“It is great that programs exist for first responders. There are numerous programs available for the military, but it’s great that first responders have access to some savings as well.” – Christopher T. bought a home in Massachusetts.
“This is an excellent program that makes you feel appreciated for your efforts in helping others–in my case….a nurse during the Covid crisis and working the Covid unit.” – MaryAnn W. bought a home in Indiana.
“If you’re someone who qualifies for this program, I would highly recommend that you pursue this option– especially if you are seeking to buy a home. I would never have expected to receive a check for buying a home, which amounted to over half of my closing costs being paid back to me. I am truly grateful to both of my real estate specialists for informing me of this program, walking me through the process and making it happen! Much love and appreciation!” – Jonathan B. bought a home in Tennessee.
“My agent was fantastic to work with, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an agent in Connecticut. I also appreciated working with him, because he was retired from law enforcement, and I am a full time law enforcement officer.” – Anthony W. bought a home in Texas.

Fuels the Circle of Giving and the Homes for Heroes Foundation
The Homes for Heroes Circle of Giving sums up the ways we help our community’s heroes as they buy, sell or refinance their homes. What started as a simple reward at closing has evolved into a variety of methods we use to help our heroes. The Circle of Giving includes our efforts to:
- CONNECT – Connect heroes with our licensed, experienced local real estate and mortgage specialists who know specifically how to serve their community heroes.
- SERVE – Serve our heroes’ needs and wants through the home buying, selling or refinancing process.
- REWARD – Provide our heroes with Hero Rewards savings after working with our local specialists to close on a home or mortgage.
- GRANT – Each time a hero uses Homes for Heroes to buy or sell a home, Homes for Heroes donates a portion of its earnings to the Homes for Heroes Foundation. The foundation awards grants to nonprofits who provide home and financial assistance to heroes in need.
- STRENGTHEN – Communities grow stronger when the people who serve the community can receive outstanding service, valuable savings or assistance, and a genuine thank you for their service.
In addition to the Hero Rewards savings offered by Homes for Heroes, the Homes for Heroes Foundation awards grants to organizations that provide support to heroes in need.
For example, the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council is an organization that helps homeless veterans, and the Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant to help in their mission. There’s a short list of some grant recipients, with video interviews, on the Foundation’s page. Here are Homes for Heroes reviews from the organization leaders that have received grants from the Homes for Heroes Foundation.
“The mission is to provide assistance to families and fire departments that have lost their lives in the line of duty. The $10,000 that you have donated to us is going to go toward expanding the memorial itself.” – Rick Flemming, President, North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation
“This grant will go a long way to help nurses in need right now. Nurses House is constantly accepting applications to our program to help nurses in need throughout the United States. We assist nurses who are ill, injured, disabled, or otherwise unable to work. We also assist with housing expenses.” – Stephanie Dague, Director of Development, Nurses House Inc.
“Most teachers work [additional] part-time jobs because of the salary that they’re paid. So, we design our programs in a way that they’re teacher-centric. This allows us to hire teachers part-time as contractors to go out and deliver our programs to schools–or do professional development for other educators.” Kim Graham, Executive Director of the Arizona Educational Foundation
These Homes for Heroes Reviews are just a sample of a larger pool of gratitude that flows around and through our organization. Over the years, we’ve discovered that gratitude is both contagious and circular, and more than anything, it’s inspiring.
