The Homes for Heroes Foundation has continued their Circle of Giving for the month of May with a $10,000 donation to the non-profit Operation Homefront. Operation Home Front’s mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in their communities.
Homes for Heroes Foundation Director Lisa Welsh and Operation Homefront’s Senior Manager of Regional Development Teresa Herrera discuss the impact:
The Homes for Heroes Foundation has three main causes: Housing Needs, Disaster Relief, and Hero Health and Critical Family Assistance. In May 2021, Homes for Heroes Foundation donated $10,000 to a new pilot housing program Operation Homefront is conducting.
Due to the challenging housing market in 2020 and 2021, Operation Homefront is piloting Transitional Housing Apartments. The goal is to help military families who are overwhelmed as they transition out of the military. Families who are selected for the Transitional Housing Apartments will be provided rent and utilities for one year from Operation Homefront. These families will then also work with employment and financial councilors to put a plan together for long term success. The first resident of the program moved into the apartment on June 14, 2021.
This isn’t the first time Homes for Heroes Foundation has partnered with Operation Home Front. In 2020, Homes for Heroes Foundation gave $10,000 for their critical financial assistance program to address critical shortfalls like food, rent, and utilities. This donation helped 12 military families stay in their homes during the global pandemic.
